New Orleans and Lafayette Cohorts

The Louisiana Educate Program (LEP) is a four-year residential Scholar program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The New Orleans and Lafayette Cohort accepts up to 50 academically exceptional Louisiana TOPS and Federal Pell Grant eligible public high school graduates. Students accepted into  LEP will receive an exclusive financial aid package of loans, grants, scholarships and campus work-study jobs designed to make college truly affordable and the academic and social supports necessary for college success.

The Louisiana Educate Programs includes exclusive perks such as:

  1. No cash due each semester through a special financial aid package of loans, scholarships, and grants specifically for LEP Scholars that pays balance down to $0. No parent loans are required!
  2. A dedicated admissions counselor will work with the student through high school graduation.
  3. A unique LEP Orientation experience for all incoming cohorts in the summer before their first semester.
  4. A dedicated financial aid counselor will work with each student individually based on need.
  5. An Academic Success Coach who will meet with the Scholars regularly to track progress, encourage, and push to greatness.
  6. An LEP Resident Assistant provided to the LEP freshmen to live and learn together.
  7. A freshmen seminar UNIV 100 LEP Mastering the First Year focused on special topics such as time management, career and major choices, study, reading, test taking, and notetaking strategies for college success.
  8. A residential program requiring participants to live in a non-private residence hall on campus through graduation.
  9. An LEP Center to provide study and tutoring space exclusively for LEP students.
  10. A Student Ambassador Program which provides holistic programming exclusively to LEP Scholars in holistic programming such as academic, career, community, cultural, leadership, and wellness development.
  11. A stipend to cover all books and supplies each semester including laptop rentals.
  12. An on-campus work study job or experience to provide personal spending money not covered by the other financial aid and scholarships.

The LEP Scholar Responsibiliites

All LEP Scholars are required to follow the LEP Scholar Responsibilities here such as:

  • Accept all financial aid awards and loans
  • Follow all campus rules and regulations
  • Live on campus until graduation
  • Meet as required with the LEP academic success coach
  • Study at LEP Center for a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Participate in LEP success and campus life programs
  • Maintain TOPS and Federal Financial Aid eligibility
  • Join at least one academic or social student organization
  • Work a maximum of 12 hours a week for on-campus work study. No other jobs are allowed.
